Ecube is an artistic installation that explores the mythological idea of the echo being another person repeating or imitating a sound rather than an acoustic phenomenon. Participants can enter the cube and say any word or make any sound into the provided telephone. Custom software then computes the most similar sounds that people previously made and plays them as the responding echo. Thus the echo becomes not only an echo of sound, but also an echo over time connecting to people previously standing in the same spot, making noise.
